Strange as I have never had this issue with av receivers. Selecting pcm output results in what i would consider a more balanced output. Last edited: Aug 6, If outputting PCM from a TV then it will be stereo and if the source was multichannel in nature than the PCM output from the TV will be the multichannel audio mixed down into just 2 channels.

The LFE channel included with multichannel formats isn't however mixed down into the 2 channel PCM signal and this could be why you are under the impression that the PCM audio is quieter?
