Since returning to Portland in early January, Wornum says, he has spent several hours a day getting exercise. Even though his father had sacrificed his own time on the ranch -- intentionally gaining weight so Arthur wouldn't be in danger of being at the bottom of the weigh-in last week -- Wornum says there was no problem between them when Arthur came back to Portland. On the show, Wornum had ended up on the rival Red Team, who voted to send him home. So it wasn't Arthur's teammates on the Black Team who made the decision.

Once Jesse knew that "it wasn't my girls who sent me home," he understood. Wornum was also vulnerable because earlier in the season, he had taken a strategic risk, and chose to send two of his teammates, Jay and Jennifer, to the rival Red Team. His thinking, he says, was to send the strong Jay-and-Jennifer team away because he believed Jay was planning to send Wornum, his father, or Black Team leader Marci home.

He overheard a conversation, he says, between Jay and Austin, from the Red Team, about possible threats. The conversation happened the day before the challenge that Arthur won the Valentine's Day-themed challenge in which contestants who ate the most candy got to choose whether to keep their team intact or swap for another pair of players. He now wishes he had taken his concerns to his teammates, Wornum says. In Tuesday night's episode, Wornum and his fellow contestants were able to go back to their hometown for two weeks.

In his Portland visit, Wornum had an emotional conversation with Jesse, who said his own failures as a father -- substance-abuse problems that contributed to his divorce from Arthur's mother, and not paying enough attention to Arthur's needs -- played a role in Arthur gaining so much weight. His eating habits changed then, too. We're eating pizza and chicken and fast food. No donation is too small.
