Boondocks that why we smoke menthols

Sorry for the lateness of this recap; I was having cable problems last night and couldn't watch the show until it went up on the TOON website. But here we all are, and we're gonna drop sci about the latest episode, featuring the return — sort of — of everyone's favorite unstoppable dickhead, Colonel H. This one starts out with Grandpa Freeman having a delightfully selfish nightmare about a 28 Weeks Later -style invasion of Woodcrest by an army of Stinkmeaners.

After throwing everyone he holds dear to the ravenous zombie jerks, he awakens in a pretty good mood, and when Huey asks if he had a bad dream, he responds "Bad for you! I lived and you died. His dream is about to come all too true, though, with the arrival of Stinkmeaner's posse, the Hateocracy: three elderly cranks bearing a strong resemblance to Fred Sanford, J. Evans, and Aunt Esther, and gunning for Grandpa.

After hospitalizing a typically race-sensitive Uncle Ruckus, they come gunning for the Freeman fam, displaying an astonishing degree of martial prowess for three old-ass niggas based on beloved TV characters from the '70s. It turns out this is Stinkmeaner's old running crew, a gang of violent thugs he met in an old folks' home, which they terrorized by running amok on Lark scooters, engaging in wholesale Jell-O theft and Reader's Digest subscription fraud, and other forms of geriatric mayhem, before getting kicked out.

After their leader was killed, they swore revenge against Grandpa. Riley has the brilliant idea of engaging Ed Wuncler III as their bodyguard, but typically, he fails to grasp the task at hand and just drives around taking potshots at any old people he happens to encounter. Huey's plan of hiring Bushido Brown proves no more effective; he soaks the Freemans for thousands of dollars and attacks anyone who gets near them, including Grandpa's dates, traffic wardens, etc.

We likes to ruin shit. That kind of satirical lens being focused on Black entertainment felt edgy and fresh in But today it leaves a sour taste for a few reasons. While a lot of the show is still genuinely funny and thought-provoking, The Boondocks has plenty of misfires. Its attempts at smuggling snarky commentary on Black culture that boomerang on themselves relies on the same stereotype-riddled images used to oppress Black people for centuries.

The Boondocks , based on the comic strip of the same name first published in , follows the Freeman family as they move to the fictional suburbs of Woodcrest after years of living in Chicago: year-old Black radical Huey, 8-year-old faux-gangsta Riley, and Granddad.

The show is a fish-out-of-water concept that comments on contemporary Black culture in the s, BET, the fallout of Hurricane Katrina, colorism, and the legacy of the film Soul Plane. This made the station and spiritually similar content like Soul Plane the perfect scapegoat for anyone looking to place the blame somewhere. McGruder was no exception, as both The Boondocks comic and TV show took several swipes at the network.

Evil from Austin Powers. They brought mayhem and trouble upon everyone including their fellow elderly folk before being finally kicked out. That's when they went separate ways. Upon Stinkmeaner's death, the three remaining members of the Hateocracy reassembled and vowed to seek revenge against the Freeman family.

Stinkmeaner's crew decides to avenge him by seeking revenge for his death and hunting down the Freemans. They first show up at a gas station, run by Uncle Ruckus, who is throwing darts at a newspaper picture of President Barack Obama. They ask if he knows Granddad, which he admits. A fight ensues due to Ruckus's racial remarks, and he is assaulted. At the Freeman home, Riley turns on the television to see the news story of the event.

Granddad leaves to go fishing, ignoring the event. Two of the members show up at Huey and Riley's school and request the boys' presence. The two are called down to the main office to see "their aunt and uncle". Huey, aware that something is wrong, has Riley follow him outside where they meet the two members.

They are astonished by their physical abilities, and they are then outmatched by the two elders after an epic fight. Then the school bell rings, excusing the children from their classes, effectively saving the two brothers. At the same time, Robert Freeman is attacked while out fishing by the third member of the crew, who uses a modified Flying Guillotine.

He survives by throwing a bucket of crabs at the man and swims away to safety. The Freemans look up Stinkmeaner on Wikipedia. His story reveals that he was part of a crew named the "Hateocracy".

George Pissedofferson who attacked Huey and Riley. The crew hated each other at first sight, but hated everyone else more. Upon Stinkmeaner's death, the crew reassembled and sought revenge on the Freeman family.
