Still, the personnel change that was perhaps the most meaningful to Yogi came with the arrival of Casey Stengel in In more ways than one, Stengel was the perfect teacher for the young catcher. Between and , the team won five World Series in a row, a Major League Baseball record that still stands.

But Stengel was also savvy in his approach to publicity, just as he was a man with great capacity for a memorable turn of phrase. Though Yogi had launched a successful career playing for the New York Yankees in , he remained living in St. Louis until It was there that he met his wife-to-be, Carmen Short. The players would sit at the bar drinking water, just so Yogi could have the chance to see Carmen.

Garagiola finally told Yogi that he needed to ask Carmen on a date, if only so the two baseball players could start going to a restaurant they could afford.

Yogi found his courage. His first date with Carmen was a hockey game. The couple married on The Hill in , relocating to New Jersey in , first in Tenafly, then Woodcliff Lake, and finally Montclair, where they lived for more than half a century.
